I included the upright brackets in my Italic as a stylistic set, and spaced them accordingly to avoid the need of adding extra spaces. :)2 -

Agreed, I used to love them as a child and teenager but then I realized that unless they are done with great insight and thoughtfulness they often look bad, or at least caricatural.1 -
